A decade after opening up shop on Greene Street in Soho, Acne Studios has not only expanded, but also fully revamped the retail space. Now measuring a whopping 685 sqm. (7,373 sq.ft.) on the ground floor of a five-storey structure built in 1910, it features an all-white interior design created by creative director Jonny Johansson and Arquitectura-G, a design practice based in Barcelona. The chosen aesthetic is a play on translucency and an array of angles that also exude subtlety and sophistication. Given the pared back design and colour, the settings have an esoteric feel that’s reinforced by translucent glass panels forming a series of large triangular fitting rooms and articulating the store’s graphic layout. along the way. In contrast to the sharply edged surfaces, the floor acts as a soft mantle in the colour of glass. Wall-to-wall carpeting of tufted wool customised by Swedish rug and textile flooring company Kasthall literally lends a soft element to the abundant austerity. For the lighting, French designer Benoit Lalloz, a long-time collaborator, follows the lines of the ceiling and brings out the formerly industrial character of this downtown area of New York City with boxy ceiling lights. The renewed Acne Studios store carries men’s and women’s apparel, shoes, bags and accessories.
