It’s considered by many as the ultimate holiday destination, but as idyllic islands are abound, an increasing number of equally alluring manmade equivalents are inaugurated. We’re talking the Maldives and the newly opened Patina Maldives resort on Fari Islands, an artificial four-island archipelago built in the north of North Malé Atoll to accommodate three different luxury resorts. Designed by Studio MK27, an architecture and design practice based in São Paulo, the Patina Maldives resort’s hospitality concept revolves around nature and wellness, offering a secluded sanctuary with 90 one, two and three bedroom beach and water villas, in addition to 20 so-called Fari studios that underscore the Maldives‘ reputation as the nearest to Paradise. Needless to say, the accommodation comes with all the comfort and amenities you’d expect from a resort like this, such as King or Twin beds, a rain shower, a private garden or large deck with private pool, a smart TV, and yes, if you really, really must, WiFi is readily available. For those who love to splurge, there’s the The Beach House, a splendorous villa of 1,800 sqm. (19,375 sq.ft.) spread over two floors with a roof terrace, garden, beach and sweeping views of the Indian Ocean.

As said, the Patina Maldives revolves around full relaxation, feeling connected to nature, and enjoying quality time, and needless to say, the resort comes with a string of facilities to make it all happen like a breeze. But it does so with a full focus on green practices, so the serving food and beverages has been revised to minimise food waste and reducing carbon footprint for the resort’s elaborate range of dining options . Totally in sync with current food trends is Roots which offers a modern plant-based menu in a warm contemporary setting crafted from natural materials, and the same can be said of Koen, an eatery serving both Japanese fare and Nordic-inspired Teppanyaki, albeit in a more clean and understated form. Brasa, with its open canteen setting situated right on the beach, offers open-fire cooking from the expansive pampas of Patagonia, while Wok Society, as its name already hints, is all about soulful Asian creations with a modern twist and paired craft beers. And that’s not all! There’s also Helios, a Mediterranean eatery, and the Farine bakery and patisserie, and the Go Go Burger food truck should the usual urban craving suddenly arise.

Fancy a leisurely bite? The beachside Veli Bar accommodates with light bites, burgers, sandwiches and pizza. The fanciest dining spot arguably is Fari Beach Club which serves exquisite tapas by Michelin-starred Dutch chef Nick Bril. Mind you, despite its beach location, no swimwear is allowed, but then again, the venue shifts into a happening outdoor lounge later in the evening, so glam it up! Balancing the myriad of indulgences at Patina Maldives is an alluring set of Wellbeing offerings which encompass a variety of quality products, scientific technologies, treatments and facilities, from Watsu and floatation, to a hammam, sauna, yoga pavilion and red light therapy. Adding a slight urban dynamic to your stay at Patina Maldives is Fari Marina Village. Just a short boat away, and also open to guests from the other resorts, it boasts 20 berths for yachts. It’s built around a vibrant beach club, an airy, communal lifestyle space with alluring boutiques such as The Rake, the Skyspace art installation by renowned American artist James Turrell, and even more trendy restaurants, this is very much the conjunct beating heart of this mini archipelago.
