Due to the ongoing global pandemic, fashion houses are seeking new ways to present their collections, and London-based Alexander McQueen collaborated with filmmaker Jonathan Glazer on a new video. Entitled First Light, the artsy video presents looks from both Alexander McQueen‘s Spring/Summer 2021 Women’s Collection and its Pre-Autumn-Winter 2020 Men’s Collection. The setting is the Thames river in a slightly dystopian British capital where in the opening scene two models slowly wade through the water in long gowns, heading towards a gathering on the riverbank with more impeccably dressed models, in reclined position and eating. Meanwhile, two lovers meet beside a bridge, oblivious to a small group of seemingly riotous boys passing by. While two women wave at each other from opposite positions across the river, a third, clad in a delicate tule gown, turns around in the mud. Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, says about the film: ‘Shape, silhouette and volume, the beauty of the bare bones of clothing stripped back to its essence – a world charged with emotion and human connection’. Shown here are five looks from the two aforementioned collections that we particularly like.
