Since its opening in 1973, Shibuya PARCO has been a beacon of modern retail, putting Tokyo‘s Shibuya district on the global map of shopping. But the ongoing surge of online sales and the emergence of a number of popular disruptors in the fashion industry had undermined its popularity in recent years, and a bold renewal project was launched. Following a three-year redevelopment, Shibuya PARCO has recently reopened to much fanfare, offering Tokyo‘s discerning fashion crowds a new multi-brand playground to splurge. One of the nearly 200 tenants of the massive shopping complex is iconic Japanese fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE which makes its debut in this part of town with an understated flagship store. Aptly dubbed ISSEY MIYAKE Shibuya, the S-shaped premises see an understated setting designed by the brand’s in-house design team, featuring smoothly stuccoed walls, concrete flooring and large windows at the far end of the store. Furnishings are sparse and comprise of  sleek clothing racks, a bag display wall, and glass and steel display tables and cabinets. The offerings at ISSEY MIYAKE Shibuya are anchored by the brand’s Homme Plissé ISSEY MIYAKE and BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE lines and complemented by selected items from the fashion house’s other lines.
