The Hoxton empire is gaining steam stateside, and following outposts in New York City, Portland and Chicago, the boutique hotel chain has planted a flag in Los Angeles most buzzing neighbourhood. The Hoxton Downtown Los Angeles occupies the Los Angeles Railways Building, a landmark Beaux-Arts structure from the early 1920s on the corner of South Broadway and 11th Street. The property, designed by London-based Ennismore design studio in collaboration with Soho House, has 174 guestrooms in four different categories—snug, cosy, roomy and biggy. Each room is beautifully designed with a homey vibe, featuring chevron floors, burl wood furnishings and House of Hackney prints which reference its East London roots. Obviously, the comfort is top-notch, and the pads also come with free high-speed WiFi, free daily calls to anywhere in the world, coffee, tea, water and milk, and a light breakfast bag delivered to your room. At 301 sq.ft. (28 sqm.), the Biggie room is the largest in the house.
It’s flooded with sunlight and has a king or queen-size bed, plenty of floor space, comfy chairs for lounging, large wardrobes, great views across the city, and a spacious bathroom with walk-in shower. Needless to say, The Hoxton Downtown Los Angeles isn’t just a place of leisure, but also of plenty of fun, and it has the right facilities on the premises to indulge guests and visitors either day or night. Situated on the ground floor is Sibling Rival, an all-day diner with its own coffee and soft serve bar. Run by the people behind the Sunday restaurant in Brooklyn, it offers a wide range of tasty comfort food based on seasonal ingredients. Perched on the rooftop, right next to the pool, is Pilot. The setting oozes playful chic, and comes with a sunny outdoor terrace and sweeping city views. The restaurant is very much a destination in its own right, offering locally sourced gourmet seafood cooked to order over fire and a range of laidback snacks.
