Having one’s very own glamorous art venue is an advantage when you’re a fashion brand, and Prada knows how to work the magic on different levels when presenting a new collection. The Milan-based fashion house has once again collaborated with architecture practice OMA‘s design division AMO to create a fitting setting for its A/W 2019 Men’s and Women’s Collections. during Milan Fashion Week‘s latest edition. Installed at the Grand Hall of the complex’s Deposito, AMO‘s runway setting comprised of a field of lights as a focal point while invitees were seated along the perimeter of the room, occupying several architectural devices – a terrace, newly-built stages and a balcony – that all gave shape to the show space and surround a rectangular void at the centre. The catwalk is embedded in a landscape inspired by Nikola Tesla‘s audacious scientific experiments and saw a grid of light bulbs attached to spiky foam. The setting matched beautifully with the building’s industrial look, resulting in an atmosphere reminiscent of sci-fi movies. Location: Fondazione Prada, Largo Isarco 2, Deposito Grand Hall (Porta Romana).
Publishers Note
Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
