Hong Kong‘s retail landscape is one of the planet’s most dynamic, offering shoppers a sizeable range of independent boutiques, upscale multi-brand stores and bustling shopping malls in equal measure. In the latter category falls Harbour City, a large shopping complex in the Tsim Sha Tsui neighbourhood of town, and a preferred destination of savvy shoppers from home and abroad. Despite its prominent stature, the mall continuously goes the extra yard, appealing to the lifestyle and focus of its following with additional events on the premises. The latest showcase to wow and entertain shopping crowds is Bounce, an interactive installation by New York City-based architecture practice Snarkitecture. Situated outdoors at Harbour City‘s Ocean Terminal Forecourt, it’s inspired by the joy of playing with bouncy balls during childhood, but then in a slightly tweaked way. How? Well, a large stadium was built right on the waterfront which explores the boundaries between art and architecture, and allow visitors to engage with an abundance of balls which have been 300% enlarged, and have a diameter of 1 metre. The shopping centre’s Gallery by the Harbour will also echo with the Bounce theme and use the massive invasion of white and silver large spheres to fill up the gallery. Visitors can enter the world of bouncy balls and take photos of the special design and installation.(on through Sep 2).

Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
