Takuya Natsume is at it again! The founder of #FFFFFFT, a cult boutique specialised in white T-shirts in Tokyo‘s Shibuya district, is also a keen marketeer who knows how to create a buzz. Following last year’s pop-up store at the newly opened Miyashita Park shopping centre, an event we covered in a previous post, Natsume has teamed up with Maki Tezuka, chairman of Smappa! Group, a company which runs a string of clubs, bars, restaurants, beauty salons in the city’s Kabukicho red light district, for an adventurous venture. Despite the area’s widely acknowledged notoriety for obvious reasons, the adventurous duo believe it’s also a colourful place where people of all walks of life meet and Japan’s rigid etiquette and social rules is not taken as seriously. Indeed, it’s right here where a new store will open its doors on Fri – Apr 30, and it’s one which signals a different – dare we say, softer? side of the area. Dubbed #000T KABUKICHO, the ephemeral space is once again brimming with T-shirts, but contrary to the previous one, it’ll be black T-shirts only, all carefully selected from across the planet by Natsume himself. Aiming to be a meeting place for kindred spirits, the shop is backed up by a bar, called Ikkoku, and art space Decameron, both situated one floor up.
