‘Plush’ is pretty much the norm in Dubai, and especially the city’s upper segment of retail and hospitality continues to spawn prestigious establishments with a wow factor. The Secret Room, a new night haunt at the FIVE Palm Jumeirah resort, falls into this category, featuring a suitable setting for an unapologetic party crowd of movers and shakers. The interior design, created by Toronto-based practice Studio Paolo Ferrari, oozes decadence from a bygone era. The setting mirrors the Renaissance splendour of an Italian palazzo, but punctuated with distinctly futuristic elements that take cues from Stanley Kubrick‘s epic 1968 masterwork 2001: A Space Odyssey. The Secret Room‘s opulence is firmly anchored by an organically shaped bar with a striking arch crafted entirely from fibreglass and paired with a number of matching pedestal drink tables cast from resin, and all against a backdrop of carved wooden walls and smoked oak flooring, along with an artwork inspired by classic Italian bacchanal paintings. Flanking the bar on two sides is ample seating, comprising of leather-clad sofas with tiered backrests and matching stools, in addition to benches and bucket seats upholstered in velvet. Plenty of strategically placed mirrors throughout the premises optically expand the space. The venue’s restroom is another sight to behold, featuring a backlit coffered floor overlaid with glass, mirrored walls and a suspended stone sink. Since its opening, Secret Room has become the stomping ground of a seasoned international party crowd with a penchant for hiphop, R & B, dancehall, reggaeton and house.
