The global retail expansion of Maison Kitsuné is in full swing, and as of late, the Paris-based brand has wet the appetite of the smart set of Los Angeles with a pop-up store. Situated at Platform in the Culver City area, the temporary retail space occupies a 600 sq.ft. (56 sqm.) ground floor unit at the mall’s central courtyard, and sees an interior design by DJ and entrepreneur Masaya Kuroki who founded Maison Kitsuné with Gildas Loaëc. The chosen aesthetic is a nod to the iconic California desert sunset and sees a central golden cube, burnt-orange allover, and pristine white walls which contrast with industrial metallic brass panels, raw flooring, and ochre tones which reference the brand’s signature fox patch colour palette. The Maison Kitsuné pop-up store not only carries seasonal collection drops and limited-edition collaboration items, but also hosts a programme of music-infused events, such as the Sunset Series by its music division Kitsuné Musique with DJ sets and drinks every second Thursday of the month, to Platform’s very own rooftop restaurant Margot, and taking over the curation of the venue’s outdoor sounds. The Maison Kitsuné pop-up store will be operational only through July, but we wouldn’t be surprised if a permanent outpost is in the making as we speak.
