Founded in 1992 by entrepreneurs Andrey Iliopulo and Sergey Sarkisov, women’s shoe brand EKONIKA has since become a major player in the vast homeland. The company has expanded its on-trend merchandise to bags and accessories which resonate well with a young and fashion-savvy clientele, and keeping abreast with its target demographic’s sensibilities, EKONIKA has adopted a new retail aesthetic. Recently, the brand inaugurated a new flagship store at Afimall City, a large shopping centre on the banks of the Moskva river, featuring an interior design by local practice DA Bureau. The new design codes playfully pair Mediterranean and classical antiquity-inspired elements with an industrial aesthetic which lend the lofty 250 sqm. (2,691 sq.ft.) space an elegant and slightly futuristic look which starts right at the store entrance.

Instead of a floor-to-ceiling glass façade, the EKONIKA store is entirely open and marked by striking, large-sized LED screens on huge stone blocks. The store configuration is anchored by pristine white stone blocks placed in the middle of the premises which created unexpected perspectives, and given their central position, seemingly make the setting visually revolving around them. At the far end of the EKONIKA retail space, behind a large amber glass window, a shoe storage area is situated, which is open to shoppers, while around the perimeter, minimalist shelving can be found. The abundance of white is further offset by a blue shade, captured by a series of low benches, displays and tables which meander across the retail space. The design of the store will be used as a blueprint of sorts for other EKONIKA retail space. The new EKONIKA store carries the brand’s full range of women’s shoes, bags and accessories. © superfuture
