As the planet’s undisputed coffee parlour capital, Seoul continues to offer aficionados a tremendous number of alluring design-led places across town, and the newly opened vonzzr café totally fits this bill. Initially, the café opened its doors in the leafy satellite town of Suwon, but now, a sister establishment has just popped up in Seodaemun, a largely residential neighbourhood in the sprawling South Korean capital. Occupying a fully revamped red brick structure up on a hill, the café measures 198 sqm. (2,131 sq.ft.) spread across two floors, and features an interior design by local design practice Studio Sherpa. Interestingly, the design concept of vonzzr is quite simple, and builds on the structure’s existing configuration and incoming light.

This has resulted in understated, almost meditative spaces where patrons can effortlessly wind down and detach from the urban bustle. A backdrop of exposed bricks and immaculate white stuccoed walls are paired with wooden planking, while fixtures have been clad in matching veneer. The latter material is prominently featured in the stairwell which is enhanced by a recessed handrail. Furnishings are few and simple, comprising a large communal table with built-in planter and chairs, two adjacent rooms with additional seating downstairs. The upstairs seating area sees a variety of seating, including more comfy sofas. What’s on the menu? Well, vonzzr offers a wide range of coffee concoctions, teas, and other beverages, all paired with various sweet bites and pastries.
