Aesop will once again participate in this year’s edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan with an installation of its own. Held at Chiesa del Carmine, a historic church in the city’s Brera district, the installation, entitled The Second Skin, explores the interconnection of dermis and design. It’s an architectural homage to both the skin’s properties and the alluring entryways that are a feature of so many Milanese buildings. Within the atmospheric Chiesa del Carmine, the brand has created an enigmatic, multi-sensorial installation that uses Aesop‘s very own Eleos Aromatique Hand Balm as a mortar of sorts, and emanates an intriguing, clove-based scent. As visitors pass through the structure, they are invited to engage with it via deep inhalation of its scent—while each second is marked with the amplified sound of a single drop of water. Upon reaching a hidden inner sanctum, a film appears—created in collaboration with the dancer Nayoung Kim of Tanztheater Wuppertal—in which bathing becomes performance. The installation of the Australian cosmetics brand can be visited on Apr 8-13.
