For this year’s edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan, the house of Hermès returns to the La Pelota venue for an immersive presentation. In stark contrast with the previous showcase, Charlotte Macaux Perelman, architect and artistic director of Hermès collections for the home with Alexis Fabry, have concepted a pristine white space with large display volumes, seemingly protruding from the ceiling and subtly emanating bright coloured halos from below. Interestingly, it’s through the immateriality of their aura that the volumes first appear. Upon entering the voluminous exhibition hall, going down a short flight of steps, visitors come face to face with the suspended volumes, but only when walking around them, Hermès‘ meticulously crafted treasures are revealed.

Simply entitled The Collections for the Home, this concealed staging is a quest for the object, for the luminous vibration that makes it familiar. The designs are showcased in large cut-outs, which not only optically frame them, but given the suspension of the volumes, also add a hint of magical levitation. The elaborate collection on display include artist Tomás Alonso‘s side table crafted from lacquered glass and a circular Japanese cedar table top, Studio Hermès‘ very own colourful leather baskets with a tartan-inspired pattern, and hand-woven and hand-dyed cashmere throws, artist Nigel Peake‘s thirty-three piece kaolin white porcelain table service with geometric motifs, and the hand-woven cashmere throws by artist Amer Musa (Apr 9-13). © superfuture
