Opened late 2019 by Vadim Otto Ursus, the cozy Otto neighbourhood restaurant has become a bit of a fixture in Berlin‘s culinary scene with its flavourful, seemingly simple dishes. And now, little over four years later, it has spawned an affiliated wine bar called Pluto. Situated around the corner, on the ground floor of a late-19th century residential building, it’s a collaborative venture with Sören Zuppke, a hospitality entrepreneur of local Autogrill block party fame, and who also joined the Otto team later on. Similarly intimate and unassuming, the interior design, created in-house, sees a backdrop of warm, deep red-hued walls and cozy nooks dotted with specific furnishings and fixtures crafted by Roh Studio, Christoph Mack‘s stools and tables, and pewter and stainless steel work by Anton Stillfried.

Interestingly, there’s also a bed near the entrance by Sam Chermayeff, a cherished left-over from previous tenant, cult interior magazine Apartamento. Pluto sees a cozy seating area with small tables and stools, leading into the main bar, where an elongated counter invites conversation over a drink and a bite. A large communal table, once again paired with stools, sits near the entrance. Adding to the extended living room atmosphere are a variety of carefully selected light fixtures, and a selection of artworks by a string of German and international artists, including Gregor Hildebrandt, Jeewi Lee, Jonas Lindström, Jan Henselder, Jack O’Brien, Josephine Karth, and Al-Ameen Archive. The menu at Pluto is simple, guided by great ingredients—warm baguette with butter, a whole wheel of cheese, homemade Mangalica ham.

Rustic favourites like pork head terrine, veal tongue salad, marinated mussels, or, depending on the season, a plate of ripe tomatoes, a bowl of cherries, and a scoop of refreshing sorbet. The kitchen sources from trusted producers in the surrounding Brandenburg state and buys whole animals. This means that different cuts are carefully distributed across the three affiliated establishments, being Otto, Trio, and of course, newly opened Pluto, to make full use of every part of the animal. And being first and foremost a wine bar, Pluto goes the extra mile to live up to its name and deliver an alluring wine list. So, the menu features a collection of wines the team’s fav wines, with a focus on biodynamic producers from across Europe, that is, in addition to cult  favourites and new finds. © superfuture
