Since its inception six years ago, South Korean fashion brand Mardi Mercredi continues to expand its retail network, and now, it has also opened its very first outpost in what’s still widely considered as one of the planet’s most sophisticated shopping arenas—Tokyo. The Seoul-based company has secured a 302 sqm. (3,251 sq.ft.) unit at REID-C Daikanyama, a mixed-use 2002 structure situated in the leafy Daikanyama area of the Japanese capital. The store is spread across two light-filled, lofty floors, each with a unique structure requiring access via separate entrances connected by an outdoor staircase. as such, different solutions for accessibility were required. The ground floor boasts an open floor plan, featuring just a few simple furnishings that line the walls, allowing shoppers to roam freely. Furnishings and fixtures comprise meticulously constructed displays, a sales counter and tiered shelving units.

Additionally, a suspended grid structure allows an elongated display tables and clothing racks to be hung. The industrial look of the ground floor is offset by flooring of lacquered wooden panels. One floor up, the aesthetic mimics the lush tree canopies outside with an all-green settingwe’re talking flooring, ceiling and a large curvilinear volume that stretches from the front to the back. Three centrally placed display units with a reflective exterior further boost the visual interaction between the outdoors and the interior. Additional furnishings and fixtures include wall-mounted steel shelving and clothing racks lining the window. Similar to downstairs, the fitting rooms are concealed, and here they’re situated within the curvilinear volume. The new Mardi Mercredi flagship store carries the brand’s full range of apparel and accessories. © superfuture
