When it comes to good food, Lisbon is blessed with a slew of establishments that are worthwhile a visit, and many are easy on the eye as well. In fact, the Portuguese capital has seen many new places popping up that cater to a savvy young clientele, such as the Let’s Pastrami café in the downtown Santos area. The café occupies a 60 sqm. (646 sq.ft.) corner space of a traditional residential building and features a modern, understated interior design by DC.AD, an architecture practice based in Lisbon. The lofty seating area sees a bar counter in the front window paired with sleek acrylic stools – mind you, they’ve been cleverly designed as storage boxes for patrons – and right behind it, another counter with similar seating is situated which doubles as a preparation counter.

The service counter lining the back wall comes with additional seating in the form of shiny metal stools, tiered shelving, and last but not least, edgy decorative neon lighting. Three round orange acrylic wall sconces provide additional lighting and tie in with the orange counter near the entrance which supports the bar and take-away service,. The aforementioned three volumes don’t touch the peripheral walls, allowing not only circulation, but also creating volumetric order. The original walls are entirely coated in a textured grey plaster which contrasts with the sleek and shiny surfaces of the furniture. The floor is covered in a hydraulic grey mosaic which further reinforces the monochromatic palette. The passage to the restroom is marked by a mirrored frame, reflecting light from within. As it’s name already implies, Let’s Pastrami‘s menu lists a range of pastrami sandwiches, paired with cocktails wines. © superfuture
