Founded by designer Nick Wakeman in 2010, London-based apparel brand Studio Nicholson soon gained a loyal following, both home and abroad, drawn by its understated silhouettes and subdued use of colour. Following a store in the city’s buzzing Soho district, which only opened two years ago, Wakeman has shifted her retail focus to Japan, a country which has proven to be pivotal in her career and creative output. Needless to say, it’s in Tokyo where Studio Nicholson has inaugurated its newest retail space. Occupying a ground floor unit of approx. 71 sqm. (764 sq.ft.) in a modern low-rise concrete structure just off bustling Omotesando dori, the store is designed by Wakeman herself and modelled after the aforementioned retail space in the British capital.

The setting very much reflects the aesthetic of Studio Nicholson‘s collections, featuring a palette of natural and man-made materials. Natural light floods the space thanks to the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, set within the industrial-reinforced concrete exterior. The collections are displayed on bespoke modular frames, crafted from oak plywood and laminated with the brand’s signature colourway. The floor comes in glossed concrete which pairs well with the ply hanging rails. At the back of the store, two changing rooms can be found, separated by floor-to-ceiling curtains and run on seamless s-track systems. The new Studio Nicholson store carries the brand’s full range of men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, leather goods and shoes.
