South Korean cosmetics and fragrances continue to boom, also on home turf, and the recent inauguration of Tamburins‘ second standalone store in Seoul bears witness to this ongoing success. Situated a stone’s throw away from the historic Gyeongbokgung Palace and smack in the middle of Samcheong, an area known across town and beyond for its swanky art galleries and shops, the flagship spreads across no less than four floors of a modern structure. The interior design, crafted by the brand’s in-house design team, takes ample cues from its location on the busy Samcheong Craft Street shopping artery and is blended with the brand’s signature retail design codes. The ground floor sees a recessed setting with three display counters with a vertically stepped front, all interconnected and flanked on one side by a matching sales counter. It’s framed by a light-filled front section which is adorned by a large portrait from Tamburins‘ new scented candles campaign and ornamental sculptures.

Last but not least, there’s a large colourful painting by renowned South Korean artist Jae-Heon Lee (1976), entitled Figure in the Garden, which complements the floor’s lime green theme and adds a cultured touch. So, one floor up, shoppers find themselves in a more interactive domain where the brand’s product range can be extensively tried and tested, and it’s also connected to an open terrace where to sit back for a minute before continuing one’s power shopping spree. The upper floors are used as exhibition spaces, and currently on display on the third floor is a series of intricately crafted bamboo sculptures, all suspended and decorated with the use of black ink. The top floor of the Tamburins flagship store currently sees a boudoir-like setting with cabinets, a display table and, how playful, large cats, and it’s entirely dedicated to its alluring new scented candle collection.
