Seeing a huge gap in the market for vintage eyewear, seasoned retailer and fashion history graduate Corey Shapiro founded Vintage Frames Company in 2008 and never looked back. Based in Montreal, Shapiro would initially buy large batches of deadstock from a wide range of leading brands, but since 2018 the company also presents vintage-inspired designs of its own. Following a boutique at its Canadian homebase, Vintage Frames Company has ventured south across the border, opening its first American retail space in sunny Miami. Occupying an 1,100 sq.ft. (102 sqm.) unit on the ground floor of the goodtime hotel, the hipster lodgings co-owned by Pharell Williams, the store sees an interior design created in collaboration with Montreal-based design practice Atelier Zébulon Perron. The design codes have not only been inspired by the iconic 1980s TV series Miami Vice, but also the renowned Art Déco architectural legacy the city is known for.

The setting is both exuberant and solemn, featuring marble tile flooring and dark timber cabinets and suspended equivalents, while at the same time, it’s compartmentalised by decorative dividers adorned with striking a sky motif and silvery backdrop. The new Vintage Frames Company store will debut some of its best-selling namesake lines and a hand-curated exhibit of rare vintage sunglasses from its archive for purchase. The list consists of runway, high fashion, and iconic cultural archive pieces which will be rotated regularly. Runway frames that would be seen in Elton John’s collection, a Pinault collection of 1950s Masquerade frames, 1960s Pierre Cardin runway collection, and 1980s Alain Mikli and Claude Montana collections. Additionally, the company’s recently launched series of limited-edition collaborations are exclusively available, created with internationally renowned cultural icons, including gallery artist Alec Monopoly and VeeFriends creator Gary Vaynerchuk.
