After having established a popular venue at homebase Bandung, the peeps at Peels Records decided to expand their horizon with a brand new outpost on the idyllic island of Bali. Nestled in a maze of winding streets in Mengwi, an emerging area west of the better known holiday areas of Canggu and Seminyak, Peels Records & Bar occupies a ground floor unit of a modern concrete structure and features an identical 1960s-inspired aesthetic. Designed by Bandung-based interior and furniture design practice Flowers in May, the setting is immersed by a bold orange hue that’s captured by the walls, ceiling and floor, and comes with velvet-clad furnishings in contrasting electric blue shade. A triangular steel hood and a huge stainless steel pillar in the middle of the space adds a slight science fiction touch.

The new Peels Records & Bar flaunts its vinyl expertise extensively to the delight of aficionados as. Before reaching the sound room and bar at the back of the building, you’ll have to navigate through a yellow-infused retail section that’s brimming with records. The hipster watering hole doesn’t disappoint with its elaborate record collection that includes various genres, such as Indonesian and Japanese pop, funk, boogie, disco, house, and dance music. Obviously, there’s an excellent sound system which comprises customised Altec Lansing A7 vintage speakers and a  Varia Instruments rotary mixer and turntables. And the drinks? Well, the bar serves various new concoctions, in addition to a carefully curated selection of bites that highlight local produce and taste notes.
