Patisserie chain Holiland keeps expanding its nationwide network of experiential retail, and following the inauguration of a market-inspired store concept in Wuhan late last year, a new outpost has opened its doors in Nanjing. The new store, dubbed Holiland Lab, occupies a 260 sqm. (2,799 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of Wuyue Plaza, a large, newly opened shopping centre in the downtown district of Jianye. The company tapped Shanghai-based architecture practice Sò Studio to create a fitting interior design, and given the set of objectives, they’ve extrapolated the notion of ‘on-site’ and ‘experimentation’ into a sci-fi sphere and introduced the theme Astronomical Experiment. The design concept resulted in distinct shop sections, or rather, lab sections, with the aim to provide an elevated customer experience. Entering Holiland Lab, shoppers find themselves in a section that’s inspired by the Space Elevator experiment, a transport concept which was first published by Russian rocket scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky in 1895. This has resulted in a clean and slightly futuristic setting, featuring a backdrop of metallic grey, yellow frames and wooden cabinets, and decorative wall-mounted LED installations add a sci-fi touch. Holiland‘s wide range of products are placed in the refrigerated cabinets and display cases which look like containers and packing boxes arranged on both sides of the central aisle. Additional furnishings, all custom-made, comprise a floating cabinet, a transport cart cake wall, and all kinds of packing box, cranes, and a rope and pulley system. The new Holiland Lab stocks the brand’s full range of cakes, pastries, cookies and candy.
