As of late, Byredo has stepped up its retail endeavours across the planet. Following a new outpost in Los Angeles, an event we’ve covered in a previous post, the cult Swedish fragrance and makeup brand opened a pop-up store in Tokyo. The Byredo merchandise has been available in Japan for quite sometime, but this is the brand’s first standalone retail space in the country. Situated at Shibuya PARCO, a hugely popular shopping centre in the city’s Shibuya district. The ephemeral store – mind you, it will be operational for no less than 18 months – sees an interior design that reflects creative director Ben Gorham‘s fond memories of forests in Canada and Sweden, countries where he spent his childhood, and in the case of the latter, is still living. Pristine white walls form the backdrop for various structures of untreated timber lining the walls while the material is also used for shelving, displays and furniture. The floor is embellished with tweaked geometric Byredo typefaces designed by renowned design practice M/M (Paris). So, what’s on the shelves? Quite a lot, actually. For the first time in Japan, the entire Byredo product range is presented, from the signature perfumes and home fragrances, to make-up and the ever-expanding Byproduct range. In addition to small leather goods, eyewear and sneakers from Byproduct, the pop-up store also carries the collaborations with OJAS, Craig McDean, Our Legacy, M/M (Paris) and Nina Nørgaard.
