As Korean fashion is riding a wave of popularity on home turf and also increasingly abroad, it has gained a high-profile retail platform at The Hyundai Seoul, a newly opened shopping centre in Seoul. Offering a tightly curated range of merchandise, the multi-storey complex offers ample choice in budding home-grown labels, and it’s here, where coor has recently opened a permanent retail space after a series of pop-ups across town. A contraction of ‘common origins’, the menswear label was only founded in 2017 and its designs have resonated well with its target demographic of young consumers, and which in turn has led to branded stores such as this one. Occupying a unit of approx. 82 sqm. (883 sq.ft.) on a subterranean floor dedicated to young labels, coor is flanked by peers operating in this segment, such as thisisneverthat, All Saints, and Porter. The store design, created by Seoul-based practice Studio Unravel, builds further on the brand’s design philosophy which is inspired by the work of Swiss architect Adolphe Appia (1862-1928). Centred around spatial composition, perpendicular scenery, and contrasts between light and shadow, the setting sees these elements fused, featuring a balanced configuration of furnishings which, through shape, material and physical location, engage in a constant dialogue with each other. The new coor boutique carries the full range of men’s apparel and accessories.
