As a popular beacon of Singapore‘s flourishing halal food scene, The Bravery has had a large following for many years. To their dismay, the diner closed down its original digs on Horne Road a few months ago, but has now reemerged in Chinatown with a brand new outpost. Nestled in between an abundance of other eateries, the restaurant occupies two floors of a traditional 19th-century shophouse, and contrary to its previous location, the premises feature a considerably more polished look, courtesy of DRAWN., a local design practice. The chosen aesthetic pays homage to the building’s original architecture, but as said, it’s also welcoming, homey, and even elegant, thanks to a carefully selected palette of materials which includes marble, brass and bronze mirror panels. The ground floor, dipped in a white and soft grey colour scheme, sees a full-fledged coffee counter and various seating configurations. The look and feel of the ground floor is replicated upstairs, except for the tile flooring which has been placed by dark timber. Special attention has been given to lighting, as it’s captured by a variety of light fixtures which add a hint of elegance to the settings, and includes wall lamps, pendant lamps, and even a chandelier-like installation over a communal table upstairs. The Bravery‘s new outpost upholds its popular menu with savoury breakfast and lunch bites, but also continues to offer a menu of cakes and brownies for sweet-tooths.
