Any self-discerning luxury brand has a retail presence in Miami, and obviously, Off-White is no exception. The top-notch streetwear label of cult designer Virgil Abloh has opted for a location in the city’s Design District, nestling among peers from fashion’s upper echelon with a standalone store of its own. Sandwiched in between the soon-to-open Stone Island flagship store and the Rick Owens boutique, the Off-White store occupies a voluminous two-storey building and features a collaborative interior design by Abloh and Samir Bantal, director of architecture practice OMA‘s research unit AMO. Both floors have a clean basic aesthetic and a flexible configuration, allowing easy changes when necessary during Miami‘s leading annual events, in particular Art Basel Miami Beach, and for which the Design District often serves as an additional social playground.

Concrete flooring is paired with walls clad in shiny corrugated steel and a mesh grid ceiling which quasi conceals a myriad of wiring and utility pipes. Furnishings are sparse, and include shelving in shiny metal lining the walls, matching cabinets with a glass top, red benches, steel clothing racks painted in black and white, large mirrors in chunky frames, and a sales counter in faux, soft pink bricks. A steel staircase, dipped in abright blue shade, leads to the upper floor which, in star contrast, is void of any bright colour. Here, a similar setting can be found, albeit with a seating area captured by sofas. The new Off-White store carries the full range of coveted men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, shoes, bags, jewellery and eyewear.
