As one of the leading luxury markets in the Far East, many a leading brand operating in this segment goes the extra yard in South Korea, including Gucci. The iconic Florentine fashion house banks on its massive popularity with an exhibition at Daelim Museum, one of the most prominent modern art venues in Seoul. Entitled No Space, Just A Place. Eterotopia, the show is curated by Myriam Ben Salah and proposes Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele‘s new definition of what an ‘other space’ might be. Basically, it zooms in on the latter’s thoughts on society and heterotopy which are of vital importance of his creative output (on through Jul 12), and all by way of the works of ten independent art spaces from Seoul, together with five artworks from both Korean and international artists. Meanwhile, halfway across town, the Gucci flagship store in the Cheongdam shopping zone has seen a related transformation. The standalone building’s façade has been entirely wrapped in a sky blue fabric which announces the show at Daelim Museum and the main shop window has been transformed into a mirrored space which offers passers-by reflections of themselves in a distorted reality, providing food for thought regarding perception while tying in with the exhibition’s theme and Michele’s fascinating introspective focus.
