Following branded counters at four leading department stores in downtown Chicago, cult fragrance brand BYREDO has inaugurated its first standalone boutique in the Windy City. The Stockholm-based brand has secured a ground floor unit at Oakbrook Center, a sizeable outdoor shopping centre in the leafy suburban neighbourhood of Oak Brook which pulls a demographic of discerning shoppers from near and far. Wedged in between peers from the upper echelon of fashion and lifestyle, such as department store Neiman Marcus, and the boutiques of Saint Laurent, Gucci, Tiffany & Co. and Burberry, the BYREDO retail space features an interior design by the brand’s in-house design team. Understated yet welcoming, the aesthetic is inspired by creative director Ben Gorham‘s love of the outdoors.
The setting is framed by flooring of large stones, wall panels dipped in a soft beige hue, and a pristine white ceiling. Furnishings are few, simple yet bold, oozing similar Scandinavian minimalism. Taking centre stage is a double sink unit crafted from large stone slabs, flanked by a small wall-mounted display shelf and sleek, built-in metal-and-glass cabinets. In the back of the store a mixed cabinet and display sits next to another large built-in cabinet unit. A recessed nook comes with a large mirror and a wooden chair. The new BYREDO store stocks the full range of fragrances, including home fragrances, makeup, body care, in addition to a curated selection of the brand’s Byproduct items. © superfuture
