Launched in 2004 by Japanese designer Junichi Abe, fashion brand kolor has made a name for itself with well-constructed and colourful garments crafted from innovative materials. Creative director Yasumichi Morita not only is plays a vital role in the brand’s men’s and women’s collections, but is also involved in the design of its retail spaces. Following the kolor retail space in the Aoyama shopping district in Tokyo, the brand has inaugurated a second standalone boutique in the downtown Marunouchi area. Situated on the premises of the newly renovated, multi-storey Shin Tokyo Building, the store sees an interior design concept which has been created in collaboration with architect Yasumichi Morita of local architecture and design practice Glamorous. The chosen aesthetic in intentionally clean and minimalist to make the merchandise pop. Upon entering the kolor store, shoppers find a corridor created by steel panels with mounted display rods sandwiched by concrete flooring and an exposed ceiling. Here, apparel and shoes are presented with additional merchandise, such as accessories and bags, presented on shelving at the end of the corridor, opposite the sales counter.
