Although the popularity of homegrown Russian fashion brands may have grown for obvious reasons, many deserve greater exposure given the forward silhouettes and design quality. Designer Luda Nikishina who founded her eponymous outerwear label in 2009, has garnered a large following of savvy young women. Based in Moscow, Nikishina has stepped up her operations and recently opened a new boutique in a fashionable pocket of the city’s Presnenskiy district. Occupying a 65 sqm. (700 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of a residential building erected in 1914 by Russian-German architect Gustav Augustovich Gelrich (1878-1918), the retail space features a clean and understated interior design by local architecture practice KOZEEN + RUEDA. A seemingly inserted unit, wedged in between two steel frames, is home to a sales counter booth, dipped in a striking soft purple hue.

Concealed behind doors is a storage space and a small bathroom, and borders two adjacent fitting rooms. The unit also divides the Luda Nikishina boutique into a front and back section. The front section sees a widened window sill, which also conceals the radiators, and is captured in metal and with a pegboard side. Furnishings are sparse, comprising only a single sleek clothing rack. An undulating wall covered in light timber and featuring a clothing rail stretches all the way to the back of the retail space. The back section, featuring a similarly metal-clad window sill, sees a a seating arrangement comprising two vintage low chairs and a cloud-shaped table. Overhead, rows of ceiling LED light fixtures not only optically enlarge the premises, but also tie in both store sections. The new Luda Nikishina boutique carries the brand’s full range of coats, jackets and other apparel pieces.
