It’s both surprising and unsurprising—we’re talking the massive exodus of foreign brands from Moscow‘s retail arena, and the quick response of local brands to take their place, and quite literally so. The sudden void has spurred a number of homegrown labels to step up their operations and open boutiques at prime locations in the city. Premium women’s fashion brand Rozie Corsets, founded by entrepreneur Rasida Lakoba, falls in the latter category, having inaugurated a new design-led boutique in Patriarshiye Prudy, a leafy enclave in the Tverskaya district. Occupying an 88 sqm. (947 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of an early 20th-century residential building by Russian architect Ossip Shishkovskiy, it features a contrasting understated interior design by local architect Elena Lokastova. The retail space comprises two rooms with a load-bearing wall and an opening. The random location of this opening in regard to the entry and the windows forms the very basis of the design concept.

An imaginary diagonal axis, running from the store entrance through the opening of the wall that divides the retail space in two to the back of the store, anchors the visual dynamic of the setting, and it’s prominently captured by a podium of polished terracotta marble. The pristine white walls of Rozie Corsets‘ store feature large embedded mirrors and LED screens, but there’s another design detail that’s very much a signature element—an intriguingly meandering steel rod. Entirely wall-mounted, it serves as a clothing rack, running playfully across the premises and tying in both spaces along the way. In the back room, an open fitting area, the marble rectangle morphs into a large LED screen, and on the back, it holds a large mirror. Here, the windows and walls are shrouded by light fabric curtains to create the perfect luminosity. And speaking of light, large ceiling lights in both rooms provide lots of it. As its name already implies, Rozie Corsets‘ collections focus on, yes indeed, women’s corsets with fashionable contemporary twist and assorted other garments.
