Renowned for its luxurious resorts in far-flung, exotic places, Aman has gained a global following of highly discerning holidaymakers. But since the inauguration of Aman Tokyo in 2014, distinctly urban lodgings high up in a soaring tower, the hospitality group’s focus has diversified, leading up to the opening of its second city property—Aman New York. Situated smack in the middle of Manhattan – indeed, where else? – Aman‘s newest outpost occupies the Crown Building, a landmark 25-storey structure on Fifth Avenue, and features 83 spacious suites, in addition to 22 branded residences, a first for the luxury hospitality group. Needless to say, the premises are design-led and effortlessly plush, thanks to designer and longtime Aman collaborator Jean-Michel Gathy of Kuala Lumpur-based practice Denniston. Upon entering the premises, the grandeur instantly unfolds, featuring a double-height atrium with a lavishly textured ceiling and wall panels in muted hues that hint the hotel group’s Asian heritage.
The suites at Aman New York come in no less than seven categories and sizes—each one is designed to be an urban retreat, featuring an understated yet warm and luxurious interior design with even room for a functioning fireplace. And if you thought simply staying here is self-pampering enough, think again. For those who enjoy to live large, in a civilised fashion, that is, the Aman Suite is readily available. At 188 sqm. (2,024 sq.ft.), it’s not only the largest room on the premises, but also the grandest, featuring settings that reflect the elegant minimalism of Japan’s tranquil, open-plan aesthetic, and even sees a reproduction of painter Hasegawa Tohaku’s Pine Trees masterpiece. Given the spatial dimensions, this suite comes with one or two bedrooms, a large walk-in wardrobe, a bathroom with walk-in steam shower, oval bathtub and double vanities and a separate toilet, and as an extra bonus, scenic views of Manhattan. As said, Aman New York has been cincepted as an urban retreat, and as such, guests can make use of a string of facilities that enable them to fully unplug from New York City‘s hustle and bustle. Let’s start with the property’s alluring wellness offerings.
The spa measures 2,300 sqm. (24,757 sq.ft.) spread over three entire floors and is Aman’s new flagship integrative wellness destination, featuring an indoor 20-metre swimming pool surrounded by fire pits and daybeds, ten treatment rooms, fitness facilities, and two Spa Houses that provide an unparalleled and all-encompassing spa journey. When staying at Aman New York, there’s every reason to stay in, relax, and most of all, indulge. Up on the 14th floor, the wraparound Garden Terrace is situated, offering year-round dining. The venue is flanked by water features and comes with cozy fire pits. Two signature restaurants include Arva, an Italian dining concept which celebrated locally sourced seasonal ingredients, and Nama, a traditional Japanese dining venue with an Omakase bar. Late night fun? Check. The Jazz Club presents daily live performances, adding pizzazz to the premises. Another Aman first is the hyper-exclusive Aman Club, offering members two club lounges, a private garden terrace, as well as a Cigar Lounge and Wine Room for discreet banter.
