Comme des Garçons has birthed another quirky retail concept, and this time, it’s in Paris. On the premises of 3537 – mind you, we’re talking Hôtel de Coulanges, a grand 17th-century mansion and former home of literary aristocrat Madame de Sévigné – the brand’s evolving new hub of tightly curated events, retail and budding young brands in the Marais district, Europe’s first-ever Black Market Comme des Garçons pop-up store installation has opened its doors. Situated on the East Wing’s ground floor, the retail format is captured by a semi-covert, half hidden, seemingly fly-by-night, transient shop where the global fanbase can indulge in black items from the past and the future of Comme des Garçons, re-envisioned things that were not black, but are now made in black, things that should not be black and now have become black, and all presented in a setting of black cardboard boxes and props as only Comme des Garçons can (open through Jan 30).
