As one of hundreds of sizeable (read: 1 million+ inhabitants) cities in China, Fuzhou is on the move. Situated at the mouth of the Minjiang River, it’s a regional capital with quite a buzz. The close proximity of the Taiwan Strait, a major waterway for global shipping, has resulted in a number of large economic zones, free trade zones, and industrial parks which have tremendously cranked up the local standard of living. Needless to say, life in Fuzhou has increasingly become a breeze, offering its dwellers an alluring and ever-expanding habitat for off-time debauchery. The recently opened Vista café, situated in the northern Chayuan area of town, totally falls in that category. Infused with a solid dose of visual drama, created by Hong Kong-based design practice Karv One, the 930 sqm. (10,010 sq.ft.) establishment totally lives up to its name. The voluminous ground floor sees light terrazzo flooring paired with large metal grid volumes rising from floor to ceiling and seemingly flowing through the air alongside an abundance of lush greens. A circular bar with stools sits at the centre, surrounded by additional seating captured by terrazzo benches, tables and chairs. At the back of the Vista café, right beside a suspended installation of plants, a terrazzo-clad staircase leads to the upper floor where a private dining space and bar, in addition to a children’s playroom can be found.
