Berlin may be best known abroad as Germany‘s fashion hub, but it’s in Munich where luxury brands have deeply rooted and found their most avid following. It was just a matter of time before MYKITA would follow the many high-end brands that have set up shop here, and now, it has secured a suitable location in this affluent shopping destination. Situated just north of Maximilanstrasse, the city’s golden mile of luxury shopping, the store occupies a ground floor space of a listed Renaissance Revival structure, built in the 1880s by Austrian architect Georg von Hauberrisser. Given the bold historic context, MYKITA decided to break away from its signature sleek retail aesthetic and collaborated with local architect Stephanie Thatenhorst to create a matching interior design. The building’s ornate façade with its oversized arched windows is replicated inside, but it’s mixed and matched with the understated, modern elements MYKITA stores have become known for, creating sophisticated settings across the premises. Upon entering, shoppers encounter the brand’s signature white display wall, paired with a chunky mirror-clad counter and custom-built furniture pieces by Thatenhorst. Sleek suspended black light fixtures light up the display wall. The adjacent salon sees an elongated sales counter captured in marble and black metal, fluffy powder pink carpeting and similar light fixtures. At the far end of the store, a Zeiss Vision Centre can be found which full optical service for customers by an in-house optometrist. The new MYKITA store carries the brand’s full range of prescription frames and sunglasses.
