Founded in Brussels by Charles-Antoine Bodson, The Skateroom is an audacious vision that challenges the classic definition of a successful business. As such, it’s a countermovement to today’s insatiable consumption and a commitment to creating a better world for all, uniting art buyers, artists, galleries, museums, foundations, retailers, and non-profit organisations in a new economic model. Dubbed Art for Social Impact, the endeavour aims to deploy human creativity as a tool raise money for 31 social skate projects across the planet. The Skateroom has the privilege of partnering with cult Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara (1959) and the LACMA in Los Angeles to offer three iconic editions of Japanese artist during a large retrospective. Nara’s unmistakable work is created around the apparent innocence and naivety of his subjects, mixed with emotions of loneliness, aggressiveness, or horror. The collab enables The Skateroom to feature the Nara’s powerful work on our its decks and sees the release three time-limited editions, featuring the artist’s iconic work: Untitled, Alone in the wind, and Peace Girl. The editions will be available exclusively during Nara’s very first international retrospective at the LACMA which is expected to open in the near future after having been postponed due to Covid-19. Residing elsewhere? No worries, the decks can also be purchased online.
Publishers Note
Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
