Luxury retail in the Dutch capital may have taken root rather late compared to other leading cities across the planet, but it’s now developing at an accelerated pace, seeing the arrival of an unprecedented number of flagship stores in the upper segment. It’s on P.C. Hooftstraat, a shopping strip around the corner from three of Amsterdam‘s most notable museums, where all luxury brands converge, and newcomer FENDI is no exception. The Roman fashion house has picked a mid-19th century building to set up shop, and commissioned Milan-based practice and longtime collaborator Dimore Studio to create a matching interior design. Measuring approx. 230 sqm. (2,476 sq.ft.) set across two floors, the chosen aesthetic is contemporary with clean lines and sophisticated lighting.

And obviously, it’s lavish at the same time, seeing an infusion of marble, wood and carefully selected furnishings and fixtures that heighten the sense of luxury. The ground floor is home to the women’s collection, presenting the brand’s elaborate range of apparel items, accessories, bags and eyewear. At the far end, in the glass-roofed extension, a boudoir is situated where power shoppers can leisurely sit back and ponder over their next trophy purchase. A marble-clad flight of stairs leads to the basement section where the full FENDI men’s collection can be found. Equally alluring, the setting here is more demure, and seeing the design codes interpreted by way of darker hues. Similar to upstairs, gents also have a seating area, featuring a leather-clad bench and sofa.
