Although San Francisco has traditionally been home to the majority of luxury boutiques in the sprawling Bay Area during the past few decades, Palo Alto is an affluent pocket at approximately 33 miles (53 km) south of the city that’s becoming increasingly self-sufficient in the luxury goods department. Situated on the campus grounds of Stanford University since 1956 is Stanford Shopping Center, the complex has recently been redeveloped and expanded, resulting in more premium and luxury brands flocking there to set up shop. An exponent of the latter category, Hermès has operated boutiques in downtown San Francisco and at San Francisco International Airport for quite some time, but has now added a third outpost – it’s the first store opening Stateside in five years for the French luxury house – at this upscale mall.

The store occupies a sizeable 6,052 sq.ft. (562 sqm.) ground floor unit and features an interior design by RDAI, an architecture practice in Paris which has traditionally designed all of Hermès‘ boutiques across the planet. The store comprises of a main room and surrounding smaller alcoves which each present sections of the brand’s elaborate collection. The design of the main room is anchored by an inviting seating arrangement with sofas below a skylight, both mosaic tiling and wooden flooring, and all surrounded a variety of custom-made cherrywood furnishings that display an abundance of coveted products. The new Hermès store carries an extensive range of products, including men’s and women’s apparel, bags, silk scarves and neckties, homeware, and even equestrian gear.
