In Osaka, the art of coiffure has gained an understated new foothold. We’re talking the SITEN salon which opened a little while ago in the city’s downtown Higobashi area. Perched on the fourth floor of a modern structure built in 2010, and situated alongside bustling Yotsubashi-suji. The salon measures approx. 73 sqm. (786 sq.ft.) and features an interior design by local architecture practice SIDES CORE. Interestingly, the design concept is inspired by the notion that a good haircut ‘can change one’s perspective and even one’s life’, and this has led, among others, to the design of a multi-faceted mirror whose tilted surfaces literally provides different optical perspectives.

The building’s concrete shell and large floor-to-ceiling windows serve as a backdrop for curved white wall panels and partitions. In contrast, the aforementioned mirrors are angular, and given their differently tilted surfaces, they have skewed sides. Very much SITEN’s focal point, the mirrors are firmly embedded in a matching workstation accommodating four clients. Next to a separate shampoo area, the SITEN salon comes with an eyecare room where eyelash lift treatments and eyebrow styling sessions are given. SITEN offers haircuts for women, men and kids, in addition to hair colouring, perms, straightening, so-called head spa treatments and other services.
