Of all bustling Southeast Asian capitals, Manila has always lagged a little behind in terms of luxury shopping, but in recent years, the city has been on a fast track to the major league, and the recent opening of Louis Vuitton‘s newest retail space here bears witness to this trend. The French luxury behemoth secured a spacious 914 sqm. (9,838 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of Greenbelt 3, a recently renovated wing of the eponymous upscale shopping centre in Makati area of the Philippine capital. It’s by far the biggest Louis Vuitton retail space in the country, and not surprisingly, the company has pulled out all the stops to offer an elevated shopping experience. But that’s not all. The store has been designed by Louis Vuitton‘s in-house design team in Paris, but in close collaboration with Philippine furniture design brand Philux to lend the premises a distinct local flavour and celebrate homegrown craftsmanship and artistry.
Next to carefully sourced furniture pieces, this is reflected by elements such as wall accents and artworks that are reminiscent of habi, a traditional weaving technique, ceiling panels made of raffia and saguran, a fabric crafted from Talipot palm leaves, while bamboo teardrop lamps are prominently features in the women’s leather goods section. Needless to say, a V.I.P. room can also be found on the premises for the most discerning of clients, featuring windows which are often found in traditional homes in the countryside of Capiz province. Further boosting the sophisticated shopping experience are a selection of artworks, interspersed between the design elements and coveted merchandise, by a curated selection of artists including Russell Frampton, Zélie Belcour and Carla Sá Fernandes. The new Louis Vuitton store carries the brand’s full range of women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, accessories, bags shoes, jewellery and watches, in addition to selected items from the luxury brand’s Objets Nomades collection.

Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
