As Taipei‘s leading entertainment district, Songshan has a reputation to uphold, and it does so by continuously facilitating nocturnal debauchery through an ever-expanding variety of venues. One of the latest establishments to arrive onto the scene is KEDI Tonight, a bar and shisha lounge tucked away in the neighbourhood’s grid of alleyways. The interior design, created by local architecture and design practice Republic Design, oozes the vibe of a cool bar in New York City‘s Lower East Side in the 1990s, one you’d go to before hitting the clubs, or right after. A concise palette of dark wood, stainless steel and light transmission polycarbonate define KEDI Tonight‘s aesthetic, and both capture and unify different sections. Upon entering the premises, visitors pass a cozy overarched lounge area, situated on a slightly elevated platform, and an adjacent bar from where the shisha pipes are distributed. Overhead, an LED light swirls across the ceiling from the entrance to the back of the venue. Additional seating sits in the middle of the elongated space, and right behind it, a well-stocked cocktail bar with a lit counter framed by steel rods. A corridor leads to the kitchen behind the bar, and ultimately, to an intimate backroom where we imagine you’d go to to smooch with a hot new date.
