Following the participation of Japanese fashion conglomerate Stripe International in the Maison Kitsuné brand two years ago, the latter has embarked on an accelerated expansion strategy in Southeast Asia. The Paris-based brand, headed by Franco-Japanese entrepreneurs and DJ duo Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki, have successfully established a retail network which spans major cities on three continents, but see room for further growth in the Far East. Earlier this year, a combined boutique and café opened on the plush premises of EmQuartier mall in Bangkok, and now, the company makes its Indonesian debut at Ashta District 8, an upscale mall in Jakarta‘s downtown business district. The venture, a collaboration with Kaja Group, a local hospitality company, sees a similar dual retail concept. Café Kitsuné anchors the voluminous ground floor space, featuring the brand’s signature design codes which pairs Japanese design elements with nods to Parisian café culture, and this has resulted in a wooden grid ceiling, walls dipped a moss green hue and dotted with the brand’s abstracted fox logo, and paired with flooring of stone tiles and terrazzo in different motifs for the café and store. Café Kitsuné offers a menu which includes all obligatory coffee concoctions, iced matcha and other drinks, in addition to a range of both savoury and sweet bites, all supervised by cult chef Yuji Tani, and executed locally by chef Carottama Prasetya. Although the Maison Kitsuné boutique has its very own entrance, it’s also directly connected to the café section indoors. Here, the setting adapts to whitewashed walls, and yes indeed, adorned with the abstracted fox motif and timber panelling, parquet flooring, and matching timber furnishings. The new Maison Kitsuné store carries a selection of the brand’s men’s and women’s collection.
