Since Milan-based Ermenegildo Zegna Group acquired a majority stake in Thom Browne two years ago, the latter hasn’t only gained ample synergy and support to advance its manufacturing process, but also sufficient capital to expand its global retail presence. Following expansion in the Far East in recent years, Thom Browne is now prioritising more stores in North America, and as of late, the brand operates a new standalone boutique in Toronto. Needless to say, the brand picked a location at Yorkdale, the city’s leading upscale shopping centre. Occupying a 133 sqm. (1,430 sq.ft.) ground floor unit in a newly opened section of the venue, the store features the brand’s signature Mid-Century office design codes, replete with an austere marble façade and windows and entrance adorned with blinds. Inside, there’s more polished grey Carrara marble on the walls, paired with black and white terrazzo flooring, and coffered ceilings. Furnishings comprise of tiered displays and shelving, metal rolling garment racks, and a selection of cherry-picked vintage furniture pieces by leading American and French designers, including Paul McCobb, Jacques Adnet and Karl Springer. The new Thom Browne store carries men’s and women’s apparel, bags, accessories, shoes, eyewear and fragrances, and also provides tailoring services to its most discerning clientele.
