In December of last year, leading sneaker emporium Sneakersnstuff launched a Tokyo outpost to much fanfare, and understandably so, given the string of successful previous store openings in far flung places, such as London, Paris, Berlin, New York City and Los Angeles. But the store in the Japanese capital is one of the few multi-faceted ventures of the Swedish retailer as it not only features two distinct shopping zones, but also a restaurant where to relax in between shopping sprees or meet up with friends. It’s the latter section which will be rebooted as SNS Café, a bistro-inspired hangout which not only offers tasty American, Swedish and European bites in a homey setting, but some quirky extras as well. Interestingly, the venue also features the SNS Book Club which offers a curated selection of books which have inspired Sneakersnstuff, a listening station with music picked by Sneakersnstuff staff from its stores around the world, a space for rotating art exhibitions and a community board section with latest news and happenings.

Additionally, SNS Café also features a small gift shop with exclusive SNS Brand Tokyo items ranging from apparel to house goods, all designed in the retailer’s homeland Sweden. Similarly to the retail spaces, the café has been designed by Stockholm-based practice Bofink Design Studio, resulting in a setting which fuses Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics. Timber is an important element and has been used for most furnishings and fixtures, giving the setting a warm and cozy look. The wooden chairs come in a soft mint hue which ties in with an exposed ceiling in the same colour. All have been carefully selected and include furniture by Grythyttan, lamps by ateljé Lyktan, and Artek chairs with custom leather seats in a camouflage motif. When weather permits, the café offers outdoor seating on a sunny little terrace. The menu at SNS Café is developed in collaboration with popular coffee parlour and eatery Camelback in Shibuya, and lists bites inspired by all the cities with Sneakersnstuff stores, such as hamburgers, tacos and meat balls, in addition to traditional Swedish food, salads and soups, amd all paired with coffee soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
