At long last, FREITAG has arrived in Amsterdam with a standalone store of its own. Set up in collaboration with German lifestyle goods purveyor Selekteur, a snug location has been picked deep in the city’s scenic Canal District and will officially open on its doors on Fri – Sep 11. It occupies a 70 sqm. (754 sq.ft.) ground floor unit of historic 18th-century red brick structure, but features an early 20th-century shop façade with stained glass windows. The store sees FREITAG‘s signature understated interior created by its in-house design department and obviously includes the brand’s almost iconic storage system, and here, it stretches from the front all the way to the back of the store. Additional furnishings include a moveable steel sales counter, and wall-mounted displays and a series of benches clad in tarp. Interestingly, the retail space also seamlessly connects with the Dutch capital’s renowned easy-breezy bicycle lifestyle, and does so by renting out retro-inspired Roetz bikes and bike bags to explore the city’s many sights. Mind you, there’s even a bike cinema on the premises, situated in the basement, which is fully operated by pedal power. The new FREITAG store carries approx. 1,000 bags and 1,200 accessories, all made from truck tarp.
