Having carved an achingly cult niche for himself, everything Hedi Slimane does is a big, big deal in Fashionland. Ever since the elusive Frenchman became the creative honcho at Celine we’ve seen major branding tweaks, and his latest endeavour once again sent shockwaves around the planet. We’re talking the launch of La Collection Celine Haute Parfumerie, a collection of eleven sophisticated fragrances, nine of which are being launched in October, with two others to follow next year. Mind you, this is Celine‘s first perfume release since Vent fou was launched almost fifty years ago by the luxury brand’s founder Céline Vipiana. The new series of fragrances bear the names Parade, Saint-Germain-Des-Prés, Dans Paris, Cologne, Française, Bois Dormant, La Peau Nue, Rimbaud, Eau de Californie, Reptile, Black Tie and Nightclubbing, and interestingly, not a single one is designated as a distinctly feminine or masculine scent as each concoction offers a quirky blend of notes, and as such, bold new connotations surrounding modern identity and gender.
