Tarp bag manufacturer FREITAG had been quite well represented in the South Korean capital through a number of depositories, but obviously, nothing beats a branded space of your own. Well, that day has finally arrived for the Swiss company. Opening up shop in Apgujeong, an area of Seoul known for its abundance of swish boutiques, the retail space measures 66 sqm. (710 sq.ft.) and features an understated and functional interior that’s similar to all other FREITAG stores across the planet. The space, designed by Tokyo-based Torafu Architects, was completely stripped to reveal its bare shell and then built up again, embedding much of the structure’s raw elements. The brand’s signature shelving system obviously is present, and lines two wall sections. Additional furnishings include a tiered shelving unit, sturdy metal storage tables, and a partition which doubles as a vertical display. The redesign of the retail space also resulted in the removal of a back wall, allowing access to a secluded patio garden. The new FREITAG store carries the brand’s bags and accessories.
