After two decades at Corso Venezia, apparel brand Stone Island relocates relocates its flagship store around the corner to an even more prominent spot in Milan‘s Duomo district. Occupying two floors of Palazzo del Toro, a landmark 1930s mixed-use building by Italian architect Emilio Lancia, it features an understated interior design by German architecture practice Zeichenweg. The ground floor is marked by large windows that allow in floods of daylight, and even before entering the store it’s immediately evident that bush hammered stone dominates the setting, covering not only the floor, but also the walls. Furnishings and fixtures are equally spartan, comprising of felt-covered modular shelves, suspended metal clothing racks, colourful mesh paneling and matching coloured glass railing for the staircase that leads upstairs.The area dedicated to the Shadow Project is defined by a blue-black steel floor and carbon garment hangers on the walls. The second floor is much larger, and present a similar aesthetic, but it’s the dimensions that somehow do more justice to the use of stone, and how the floor seamlessly extends into the wall. The new Stone Island flagship store carries the brand’s full range of apparel items.
