The reach of Japanese fashion is global, and even the smaller brands are heavily scrutinised and followed by an avid fanbase. Christian Dada may not yet be a household name in your neck of the woods, but across the Far East the forward designs by creative director Masanori Morikawa have made the biggest commercial impact. As a result, flagship stores have bowed in Tokyo‘s upscale shopping district of Aoyama, and last year, at the newly opened 268 Orchard Road Building in Singapore. And now, one year on, another standalone Christian Dada boutique has opened its doors in Taipei. Situated at The Arcade, the shopping section of the Mandarin Oriental hotel, it occupies a 150 sqm. (1,615 sq.ft.) ground floor unit and has its own entrance. Morikawa once again commissioned Tokyo-based practice Fumiko Takahama Architects to create the interior, and this time the design concept is inspired by ruins. Wall sections protrude from the ceiling, creating a visual dynamic that’s replicated below by similar structures popping up from the floor and stacked blocks serving as displays. Suspended steel pipes for hanging garments, and the concrete floor has been tweaked to resemble degradation through water leakage. The new Christian Dada store carries the band’s full range of men’s apparel, accessories, shoes and small leather goods.

Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
