At long last, Aesop has opened a standalone boutique in Spain, and it’s smack in the middle of Salamanca, Madrid‘s most prestigious shopping zone. The store is situated on the ground floor of a monumental office building erected in 1923 and measures 105 sqm. (1,130 sq.ft.). The interior design, a collaborative effort of local design studio Ciszak Dalmas and architect Matteo Ferrari, has retained most of the building’s original architectural elements while also embedding plenty of references to the country’s Moorish cultural legacy. Pristinely stuccoed walls with extensive recessed shelving units and cabinets are paired with flooring of traditional terracotta tiles which also clad the sales counter. Taking centre stage is a sizeable, elongated display clad in travertine with two sinks that seemingly floats in between two columns. The back of the store is adorned by a striking macramé tapestry made by renowned Catalan artist María Asunción Raventós in the 1970s. The new Aesop store carries the brand’s full range of face, body and hair care products, in addition to fragrances and home products.
